This iPod belonged to a soldier in Iraq who was shot by an insurgent. Luckily, the bullet hit his iPod, slowing the bullet down enough to not penatrate his chest. An engineer at Apple heard about the story, and is trying to replace the iPod for him.Why does the iPod have an HP logo on the back? I’ve never seen that before.
Apple partnered with HP for a while to sell their ipods. It was pretty much a failed marketing attempt though.
Actually, Hewlett-Packard partnered with Apple to help bridge over to a deeper PC market, which is where they are today. It worked so well that HP is still partnered with Apple, it’s just more under the table then we know. Most of the Silicon Valley based companies are allied, with AT&T partnered with Apple, HP, and Yahoo! (and all of them linked with each other, hence the iPhone, Yahoo! homepage abilities, and massive corporate discounts with each other).
Ah, I see. I had only read that they ended it after a year or 2 because HP only only sold like 5% of the total iPods. But I guess any proliferation into a PC saturated market can only be positive.
Also, i saw a comment that someone was wondering “why in the world would a soldier be listening to an ipod when they are in combat!?!…” The army now uses language translation/dictionary software on iPods (I guess they’re cheap and durable?) so they can communicate with the locals more easily. I don’t know if this particular ipod was used for the same reason though, as people are saying this story is about 2 years old.
